ROBE DE MARIÉE2023- work in progress

Robe de mariée is a collection of images sourced from online marketplaces where women from around the world sell their wedding dresses. A common thread among these images is the women's efforts to obscure their faces by various means such as scratching out, cutting, or covering with objects or editing tools.

This project highlights how these platforms reveal the hidden aspects of social conventions and the use of digital networks. Unlike platforms like Instagram that showcase idealized moments, these marketplaces show low-quality images treated with humor and aggression, reflecting a more genuine side of society.

The project includes exchanging private messages with the users to understand the reasons for selling their wedding dresses. The act of obscuring faces raises questions about the public sharing of intimate memories and the choices behind selling emotionally significant items. The project includes reaching out to these women to understand their motivations and methods, exploring the intersection of private life and digital space, and challenging the marketing norms and social hegemony. Collecting over 200 images, the project suggests that the internet can be a space for sharing unhappy memories and turning private moments into a form of visual exorcism.
